Hygeia Conference

“Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all”. 

In recent months there has been an alarming amount of deaths by suicide in Malta, mainly among men. This is why we are launching this new initiative - Isma' Ħabib - as a safe space for men run by men. 

Dr Sabine Agius Cabourdin, founder of Fidem Foundation, recently addressed the Hygeia Conference on Mental Wellness to talk about the mental health services provided by Fidem. Launched in 2018, Fidem has helped and empowered numerous women and adolescent girls though the transformative power of education. Many of them also required support for their mental wellbeing. 

“Over the years we have realised that men need similar, specialist support for their mental wellbeing in space where they feel safe to express themselves. This is why we have created Isma Habib for men run by a team of devoted volunteers who are all men and understand the specific mental health challenges men face.”
